Module privatemsg

Good day. I have the following task:

I need to send messages to the email addresses of my registered users, something like notifications about new features on the site or some news...

After browsing the forums, I came across the privatemsg module. It was mentioned on the forums that it has this capability. I installed this component, and all I got was the ability to send messages between users within the site.

From this arises the question:

Is it possible to do mass mailing to all users' email addresses using the privatemsg module?

If so, where should I look, what should I check, and how should I configure it?

Or maybe there is something better than this module, and I shouldn't get too fixated on it?
