Large database size

Can you tell me, Ivan, why I have two websites that are six months old or more, one on Joomla and the other a custom-built database of 5 and 10 MB, while this empty one is 1378 MB? The hosting provider responded: "This is because the tables in the database vlanto_autprof are of type InnoDB, whereas the other two databases use MyISAM." Is this really a normal difference, and can it be fixed in any way?
